Word For The Year

Happy New Year friends!

I've seen many people saying their word of the year.  I've thought about it a lot.  What intention do I want to set and carry with me through this new year?  My word for 2018,        S P A C E   Meaning, declutter, simplify, make space for new.  Having things simple puts me at ease, helps me feel light. With that, check out below how I started my winter décor.

L I V I N G  R O O M
I constantly see gorgeous photos with layers of décor, and don’t get me wrong, it’s BEAUTIFUL.  I have tried to layer and layer, but it’s just not my thing, nor does it fit in our house.

Our living room is a space that has been so hard to figure out.  It’s an awkward size, long and narrow.  The front door comes in here so you have to walk through here to get to the rest of the house.  For a long time I worried about making the front door a focal point and trying to make it easy to walk through.  But lets be real, NOBODY enters through the front door.  Like seriously NOBODY.  Out of the year and a half we have lived here, maybe one person has came through that door!  Our back entrance is the high ceilings, open space y’all have seen in other spaces, so everyone enters there.

I think I have FINALLY figured out how to arrange this room…somewhat! Hahah!  Do you have those rooms where you just sit there constantly moving furniture in your mind….and multiple times braking your back because your hubbies at work, but you just REALLY want to see how it would work a different way? Yeah…I've done that! 🙋

ANYWAYS!! These thoughts racing through my mind above is the reason I want less 😊, I want free space, I want simplicity.  We are planning to put some shiplap on the wall where the couch is now.  That way even if I don’t have any decorations hanging on it (like it is now), there will still be interest to the wall.

When I started to think about winter decorations….I drew a blank.  I had no clue what to do. I didn’t have a vision…and there are still spaces where there’s nothing.  And I’m totally ok with that! When I took the Christmas Décor down. I saw candle sticks, I saw my window, I saw dried eucalyptus that was in my Christmas greenery.  Boom, there’s the mantle décor.

For Christmas, I got this adorable bowl and AMAZING candle from the Heart & Hand line at Target from my parent.  Then I stuck some dried magnolia leaves from Christmas greenery.  Boom!

I haven’t bought a single thing for ‘winter décor’.  I’m determined to use more of what I have, unless I see a heck of a deal. Just keeping it simple around here...😊

Clean, simple, open spaces.  That is what is in store for me and our house for 2018!  We have many projects lined up for this year. I can't wait to share them with you all!  Happy New Year friends! Thanks for reading my first ramblings of the year!

XOXO-Lauren
